THINKER
Since completing my Masters in Performance Making at Goldsmiths, University of London, in 2008, rigorous enquiry has underpinned my creative practice. My work spans artistic research, Jewish text study and performance, exploring questions of identity, memory, embodiment and belonging through both scholarship and making.
A pivotal moment in my intellectual journey came in 2018 when I attended the Asylum Arts retreat in Garrison, New York. The experience deepened my engagement with contemporary Jewish creative practice and continues to inform my work today.
Alongside academic writing and conference presentations, I regularly write and present original divrei Torah for Beis Clef, bringing Jewish texts into conversation with contemporary South African life, the arts and social justice. My writing has appeared most recently in Confluences 11 (UCT). I have also presented research and performance lectures at conferences and festivals including Limmud South Africa. My research explores dance and embodied practice as sites for investigating memory, identity and Jewishness.
For me, research is not separate from making. It is another way of uncovering stories, asking questions and creating spaces for dialogue.
